Unwritten is a floral studio based in San Francisco, driven by the art of using flowers as a medium to celebrate life through all of its complexity and subtlety.
We’re here to be the translator of flowers, the connector of your story, my story, and mother natures.
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND UNWRITTEN?
Unwritten was the start of a journey unknown. A spontaneous future I had no grasp on but felt an instinctual trust in. My start into floral design was mostly unconventional back in 2018, yet so humbling and memorable. I turned my garage at the time into a makeshift studio and poured hours of my soul into that cute little space (that I didn’t own). Once I kept exploring my craft and testing my own limitations, I noticed an “evolution” of sorts. What started as a marker for a path unknown, slowly evolved into the way I began communicating through flowers. I started realizing very quickly that everything I needed to say about these magical stems, was already in the arrangements I created. The way I processed color theory and curated floral stories soon connected to my understanding of the likes and dislikes of my clients. I began creating concepts that told stories of life, love, sometimes loss, celebration, friendship, and so much more. It is all a transfer of energy between the people and nature that I have the privilege of translating for. It’s the most beautiful, unspoken word. Completely Unwritten. QUEUE Natasha Bedingfield!
WHERE ARE YOU BASED OUT OF?
We are so lucky to call home to a lovely Outer Sunset commercial studio space in San Francisco. This studio houses all of our pre-production floral work, creative thinking, and concept building. Though we don’t consider ourselves a “flower shop” we do call ourselves “studio florists”.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Our designs are informed by the intrinsic life stories of our clients, observations taken from the natural landscapes that we’ve visited, and the richness of locally sourced flowers from beloved NorCal farmers. With all of these factors in mind, we strive to create floral compositions that are evoking and timeless. Our biggest hope is to leave you completely breathless as you walk into your celebration and leave you with a newfound appreciation for nature.
WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY ETHOS?
No matter the scale of your event, we are consistently challenging ourselves to push the boundaries of floral design in both form and practice. We commit our work ethics to include sustainable practices like creating visions that opt for as much local product as possible, properly sorting our waste, composting all organic materials after an event at a local composting facility if feasible, and reusing as many hardy mechanics as possible. Being mindful of our practice and impact on this beautiful yet fragile planet we call home allows us to work with intentional love for what we do, who we do it for, and how we can make difference in our communities.

Upon graduating and receiving her bachelor's of science, life unexpectedly changed for Vanessa when an opportunity came up to design weekly flower arrangements for a restaurant downtown. What began as a hobby, quickly and serendipitously grew into a promising career….
