Unwritten is a floral studio based in San Francisco, driven by the art of using flowers as a medium to celebrate life through all of its complexity and subtlety.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Our designs are informed by the intrinsic life stories of our clients, observations taken from the natural landscapes that we’ve visited, and the richness of locally sourced flowers from beloved NorCal farmers. My role as a floral designer is to be a translator—bridging your story, my story, and the quiet wisdom of Mother Nature. Through each design, I aim to capture not just beauty, but feeling: the softness of a memory, the wildness of a beginning, the gravity of love. Flowers help us say what we cannot. And through them, I help you connect with something timeless, honest, and alive.
WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY ETHOS?
Regardless of your event's scale, we continually challenge ourselves to push the boundaries of floral design in both form and practice. Our commitment to sustainability includes sourcing locally whenever possible, properly sorting waste, composting organic materials at local facilities when feasible, and reusing durable mechanics. Being mindful of our practice and impact on this beautiful yet fragile planet we call home allows us to work with intentional love for what we do, who we do it for, and how we can make difference in our communities.
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND UNWRITTEN?
Unwritten began as an unknown journey—an instinctual leap into a spontaneous future. My entry into floral design was unconventional in 2018, yet profoundly humbling. I transformed my garage into a makeshift studio, dedicating countless hours to that modest space I didn't own. Once I kept exploring my craft and testing my own limitations, I noticed an “evolution” of sorts. What started as a marker for a path unknown, slowly evolved into the way I began communicating through flowers. I started realizing very quickly that everything I needed to say about these magical stems, was already in the arrangements I created. The way I processed color theory and curated floral stories soon connected to my understanding of the likes and dislikes of my clients. I began creating concepts that told stories of life, love, sometimes loss, celebration, friendship, and so much more. It is all a transfer of energy between the people and nature that I have the privilege of translating for. It’s the most beautiful, unspoken word. Completely Unwritten. QUEUE Natasha Bedingfield!
WHERE ARE YOU BASED OUT OF?
We're fortunate to call a charming commercial studio in San Francisco's Outer Sunset our home. This space houses all our pre-production floral work, creative brainstorming, and concept development. While we don't consider ourselves a "flower shop," we proudly identify as "studio florists."

Storytelling Without Words
Upon graduating and receiving her bachelor's of science, life unexpectedly changed for Vanessa when an opportunity came up to design weekly flower arrangements for a restaurant downtown. What began as a hobby, quickly and serendipitously grew into a promising career….

“Vanessa’s installations and arrangements were the visual glue of the event and brought everything to life. Above all else, Vanessa made the process of planning a wedding (during a pandemic, no less!) as pain and stress-free as possible.”
